The Lucy 4 is a hands-free keyboard operated by a laser that allows persons with severe upper extremity disabilities or no hand function to type on the computer, text on their phone, and print. It can be used by people with cerebral palsy degenerative diseases such as ALS, MS and muscular dystrophy, and individuals with limited hand movement. The Lucy allows them to control their PC with head movements of a couple centimeters by using a small laser lamp attached to their glasses or headband. After pointing to a key for a short period of time that key is selected. There is no need to push buttons. It types up to more than 3 characters per second or 120 keys per minute.

The Lucy functions as a regular keyboard, so there is no training needed. Lucy can be controlled in many ways depending on the physical and cognitive abilities of the user, including by the laser pointer, 1 or 2 switches, USB trackball or mouse. The Lucy features large keys (2 centimeters wide) so the head control does not have to be perfect meaning users with a slight tremor can control it. No calibration is required. Lighting conditions of the environment do not affect Lucy. Adjustable reaction speed. Frequently used messages and commands can be saved as Macros in the Lucy making it usable as a communication device.
